Letter:
I am writing to encourage citizens to wear red on February 2, 2007 - NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY. The special day is part of the GO RED FOR WOMEN Movement started by the American Heart Association four years ago. It is a national call for women to take charge of their health and live stronger, healthier lives. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in Nebraska, taking over 2,000 lives annually. In fact, more women than men die of heart disease each year one in five women have some form of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular diease takes the lives of more sisters, mothers, aunts, grandmothers and girlfriends than the next seven leading causes of death, including all cancers. Cardiovascular diseases cause about a death a minute among females.
Going red is more than a fashion statement - it's the symbol of women and heart disease and of the American Heart Association's GO RED FOR WOMEN Movement. Please join me on February 2 in honor of WEAR RED DAY by wearing a red blouse, tie, or even a red purse. Anything red goes! I hope all of us will literally "see red" and remember to encourage the women in our lives to love their hearts and take charge of their health.
Sincerely,
Cynthia S. Talley
