Good news...
I have gotten so many positive comments about the snow removal from our city streets by Bill and Scott. They have done a great job!
The entire community has accomplished an unbelievable feat. A few months ago when we started looking at junk cars, we had 47 to address. As of this writing, we are left with only 5 that have not been taken care of. WOW! WOW! WOW! Way to go!
The initial Tree City Designation application was rejected. With the help of our regional representative from North Platte, Bill and LeAnn, I have revised and resubmitted the application. It has been reviewed regionally before submission to the state and appears that this designation is finally going to be a reality.
Next month I will be sharing wonderful inspection results that our Housing Authority received. Mickey Gray has done an amazing job.
The coffee roastery is still moving forward. Mike Piva is actively pursuing locations. Let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
This week I have been reading the work of Abraham Lincoln. The Gettysburg Address is one of my favorites. It is brief and powerful. We are reminded of the price paid for freedom and the sober respect it demands. I quote, "It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." The liberties and rights so easily taken for granted are hard fought and purchased with a price few of us personally will ever be asked to pay. I ask you to look around. We all know a family or friends who paid that price in war. Do not allow the price this ultimate privilege cost to be pointless. Exercise your right to vote and have a voice. Turn out at the polls. If you are unable to get out and vote, request an absentee ballot. You are the people Abraham Lincoln spoke of.
Remember, this is our community. It will be what we make it.
