Where is the driver license exam office in Garden County?

The driver license exam office is on the main floor in the County Commissioners office between the Extension Office and the County Assessors Office on the north side of the hallway.

What services are available at the driver license exam office?

All written tests and automobile and motorcycle driving tests. (CDL driving tests are available only by appointment in Garden County). License renewal, new driver license, learners permits, state identification cards, provisional operator permits, school permits, CDL, RCDL, Seasonal Permits can all be processed at the Garden County driver license exam office.

How soon before my birthday can I renew my drivers license?

Driver licenses may be renewed up to 90 days in advance of the expiration date for those that are age 21 and older. The State of Nebraska DMV will send a renewal notice to the address listed on your current driver license to ease in your renewal process.

What do I need to bring with me to get a school permit (learner's permit)?

Applicants under the age of 18 are required to present their certified birth certificate (not one given to their parents in the hospital). If a certified birth certificate is not available, a full list of acceptable identification documents is available from the DMV website or in the Nebraska Drivers Manual. To view the ID list, go to the following:

http://www.dmv.state.ne.us/examining/idlist.html

Effective January 1, 2008, a student cannot apply for a school permit until the minimum age of fourteen (14) years and two (2) months. An LPE must be held for at least two (2) months before applying for a school permit.

The Nebraska State Examining Division offers a downloadable AAA Sample Test and Interactive DMV Written Exam.

My license is suspended/revoked. Can I pay my reinstatement fee in Garden County?

No. You will need to pay your reinstatement fee to the Financial Responsibility Division in Lincoln directly.

How late in the day can I take my test?

The driver license exam office closes at 4:00 p.m. All testing must be completed by that time. Applicants are helped on a first-come, first-served basis. The general rule of thumb is the earlier in the day, the better. The end of the day typically finds an after-school/after-work rush. Taking an on-the-road driving test after 3:00 p.m. (while possible) is oftentimes not feasible because of the number of applicants coming in after school/work.

Do I need to take a written test to renew my license?

For most license renewals, a written test is no longer a requirement. Nebraska license renewal applicants will have their written test waived as long as the license isn't expired over one year and/or the license status isn't revoked. CDL holders with a hazmat endorsement will have to pass the hazmat written test to keep that endorsement upon renewal.

Where can I find a Nebraska State Drivers Manual?

The Nebraska State Drivers Manuals are available at the Garden County Treasurer1655 Industrial Ave. , Sidney,s Office at the County Courthouse. You can also download a copy of the manual from the Nebraska State Department of Motor Vehicles at the Driver License Examining Division

Does the Nebraska DMV have a website for other questions?

Yes. Most questions can be answered by accessing the Nebraska DMV website. The address is:
Nebraska State Department of Motor Vehicles http://www.dmv.state.ne.us/index.htm
