What our office does.

The County Attorney has a duty to prosecute or defend all civil or criminal suits in which the state or county is a party, or interest, on behalf of the state or county. The County Attorney appears before the County and District Judges to conduct any criminal examination, and prosecute civil suits before any magistrate in which the state or county is a party or interested. When the county board of county officers request opinions or advice concerning duties of offices or matters in which the state or county may have an interest, the County Attorney gives opinions and advice to them. The County Attorney performs all duties enjoined by law upon the county coroner, and acts as ex. officio county coroner.

The County Attorney is also the offical Child Support Enforcement Attorney for Garden County, acting on behalf of the State of Nebraska. This includes, in part, extablishing paternity, financial support, and medical insurance.

The County Attorney's Office also provides collection of insufficient funds checks for the businesses of Garden County, and administers the Traffic Diversion Program, and recommends Juveniles to the Garden County Juvenile Diversion Program.

The County Attorney's Office updates the Garden County Law Library computer system, and also provides the information to the County Sheriff's Department.

What records we maintain

Files for all Criminal, Civil, Child Support Enforcement, and Juvenile cases or maintained by the office. These files are not available to the public, bacause they contain highly confidential information. Copies of contracts, resolutions, and other information pertaining to county business are also kept in this office.
