Regular Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2006

The Chamber met at Garden County High School, 6:30 PM.

President Carol Lake called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed. Shirley Sullivan moved to accept the minutes, seconded by Pat Ainsworth. Motion carried.

Bonnie Eckles presented the Treasurer's report.

President Lake introduced and welcomed new member Monica Holthus and guests Julie Royston, Dan and Judy Small and Edna Hartman. Edna gave a brief presentation on the Panhandle Shares Program, a non-profit organization that provides access to reduced priced grocery items.

Old Business:

President Lake advised she has received a thank you card for the Chamber's donation to Girl's State and also authorized a $300.00 donation for Boy's State. She reported grant letters have been written for Bruce & Ellen Burdick and a proposed Garden County Tourist Center. Red Carpet Service training brochures were available for those interested in attending. The training is being funded by the Highway 26 Tourism Committee and will teach front-line personnel techniques for promoting our area.

Shirley Sullivan invited members to participate in the annual TeamMates Walkathon, April 23. The local chapter welcomes new mentors to share in making a difference in a child's life.

Gladys Arnett reported on the on-going Treasure Hunt. Sponsor Survey showed an interest in participating in a similar event again in the future, but minimal interest in participating in a Sponsor's Sunday. It was decided to draw for sponsor prizes - Garden County News receives $20 Chamber Bucks from Nerud Agency and S n S Restaurant receives $20 Chamber Bucks from Nebraska State Bank. A BIG thank you to Gladys for organizing this event.

Carol Lake reported July 1 - 4 event preparations continue. Opportunity exists for a concession at the alumni dance and ball field during fireworks show. Volunteers are needed to take tickets at the dance and man the fireworks sales booth.

Paul Sissel, GCE principal gave an update of school events. She invited us to visit the Garden County Schools website at http://schools.esu13.org/gardencounty and to attend the Science and Art Fair April 20 from 5-7 PM.

The Panhandle Tourism Coalition will meet Friday, March 17, 10 AM and the Highway 26 Tourism Committee at 1 PM.

Reminder of St. Patrick's Dance at the Eagles. They will be serving Irish Stew, Corned Beef & Cabbage and providing music.

New Business:

The next regular meeting will be Candidates Night, April 20 at 7:00 PM at the Eagles. If you have questions for candidates, please get them to Mike Sullivan at 778-6219. Plan to attend this very important evening.

The regular meeting adjourned for the program on USPS Services. Karen Westerbuhr and Karen Miller, Garden County Postmasters gave a virtual tour of the postal service website and services available online. The website is located at www.usps.com.
