2006 Meeting Minutes

Garden County Chamber of Commerce
Regular Meeting Minutes
February 16, 2006

The Chamber met at the S n S Restaurant in Oshkosh, 6:30 PM.

President Carol Lake called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.

She introduced Cindy Miller from Garden County Health Services. Cindy gave a presentation on her part in the hospital billing process. Her responsibility is to translate medical terminology, diseases and diagnosis into a coded billing statement. The codes tell health insurance companies or government entities the reason why a patient was seen and what services were performed so the provider can get paid. Codes exist for all types of encounters, services, tests, treatments, supplies, and procedures provided by a health care provider in a medical office, hospital or clinic. To find the codes, she uses standard industry codebooks developed by The American Medical Association. She is responsible for entering the codes into a database and submitting associated claims in a timely manner. Codes are also used to gather and communicate public health statistics.

The minutes of the last meeting were reviewed. Jack Nerud moved to accept the minutes as presented. Tom Sullivan seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer Bonnie Eckles presented her report. She advised that committee budgets have been set and Chairpersons should contact her for that information.

President Lake introduced new member Tricia Davison.

Old Business:

President Lake reminded of the Entrepreneurial Program Funds that are available. She urged not to pass up the opportunity and asked for ideas for programs from attendees.

Member Jack Nerud reported on the success of another Farm & Ranch Day. There were 29 exhibits and the event was well attended. Next year will be the 20th anniversary year.

Mike Sullivan reported on July 4 preparations. There will be a dance on Saturday, July 1 with Jim Dandy & The Final Round performing. A western theme is planned and the dance will follow the alumni banquet. The parade and barbeque will be on the 4th as usual. Lynn Cooper has a permit for the annual fireworks display.

President Lake reminded of the upcoming "Red Carpet Service Training". The training is intended to teach how to meet and greet visitors well in order to promote tourism.

Lynne Klemke, Garden County Schools' liaison, extended an invitation to read with K - 5 students on March 2, "Read Across America" day. There will be an educational seminar by Nancy Stander on April 6 at 7PM at the Garden County Junior High. The seminar will cover "40 Developmental Assets". She also updated us on LB 126 and other projects and programs going on at our schools. School leaders will soon be surveying students, parents, business leaders, government officials, and others on our schools and asking for input.

President Lake enjoyed the Family Fun Night at Garden County Elementary School.

New Business:

Volunteers are needed to help decorate at the Eagles Club for the St. Patrick's Day dance.

The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Treasure Hunt that was created to promote all Garden County businesses, (whether they are Chamber Members or not). The goal of the Treasure Hunt is to get people out to have some fun, increase traffic in local businesses, and remind us all we still have a lot of "buy it local" options that we should be utilizing. There will be daily clues and prizes. The promotion is scheduled to begin the first week of March. Please contact Carol at 772-4500 if you would like to help sponsor the Treasure Hunt.

The next regular meeting will be March 16 at 6:30 PM at Garden County High School. The program will be presented by Karen Westerbuhr, Oshkosh Postmaster on Post Office services.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Cindy Bloomfield, Secretary
