Garden County Chamber of Commerce
August 16, 2007
The Garden County Chamber of Commerce meeting was held August 16th at 7pm at Bennie's Supper Club in Lewellen, NE. President Nathan Loyd called the meeting to order at 7:08pm. Bobbie Tophoj filled in as secretary.
Josh Henne motioned to approve the minutes of the last meeting and Todd Royston seconded the motion. Guests present included Karen Kollars of Sidney with the Target Tourism Group and Lyle Sherfey from Lisco.
Lyle Sherfey spoke about the Endurance Race to be held Sept. 1st and 2nd. People from all over the US will be coming to participate in the race. All races are to be held on Rush Creek ground. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about Rush Creek's Arabian horses. This will be a 60-mile race and horses are checked every 15 miles. Rosh Creek would like to make this an annual event. Lisco calls their race the Rush Creek Reunion. The event will bring in about 150-200 people to our area.
For Old Business Ron and Marlis Shearer donated their first prize from the drawing. Susan Hattendorf also donated her prize back. The fireworks stand grossed $4,045.00. The fireworks cost 2,366.00. With expenses and supplies the Chamber made $5.86.
Ron Shearer reported for the Commissioners and discussed oiling the road going North. He has had both positive and negative reports on the project. He also reported that Garden County was named the Livestock Friendly Community.
New Business was discussed. The group was asked if they were interested in doing concessions for the Alumni Volleyball and 13-ball tournament. Todd Royston voiced that we should have concessions and anyone interested in helping should get in contact with him.
The Airport is putting in new taxiway lights and the project is underway now. They have applied for a grant for new snow removal equipment. The FAA is checking to see about getting GPS. The extension of the runway is a couple of years away. 95% of the projects are paid for with FAA money.
Help is needed for Lisco Days on September 9th. Anyone interested in assisting should contact Ron or Marlis Shearer.
A motion was made by Marlis to require all vendors for the Fall Festival to pay $10.00 for their spot. The motion was seconded by Bonnie Eckles and carried.
Karen Kollars spoke about tourism and answered questions about the Target Study.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
