2006 Meeting Minutes

Garden County Chamber of Commerce
Regular Meeting Minutes
August 17, 2006

The Chamber met at the Eagles, 6:30 PM. Two visitors: Marcy & Bricelyn Jones.

Carol Lake, President, called the meeting to order.

The Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed. Tod Royston moved to accept the minutes and Elaine Campbell seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Old Business
  1. July 4th: Raised about $2,000, but still owe about $1,500 for fire works. Will know profit later (Treasurer's report). Booked the same band for next year, first weekend in July.
  2. Lewellen Days: The Chamber float was in the parade and won second place, which was for $15. Group agreed to send it back with thanks.
  3. Thank yous: Amber Levick sent Chamber a thank you for prize won at treasure hunt. Received a thank you from the County Commissioners for the Chamber's $100 gift for the Courthouse dedication lunch.
  4. Garden County Fair: The bingo went well. The Chamber made $80 and the Historical Society made $350. We need to consider doing the whole thing next year.
New Business
  1. Lisco Days: Date is Sunday, September 10th. We usually do ice cream, but a Lisco family wants to do it this year. Carol suggested we do games for the kids, like sack races. Prizes suggested were $0.05 for kids 5 and under just for participating; older kids get $0.50 for winning. Need volunteers to help.
  2. Fall Festival: Coming up Friday, September 15th. Pam Fornander is doing the parade. There will be a dance after the game and vendors on the street. Buddy needs help setting up in the morning. Brian Ulrich volunteered to set up the electric hook-ups. After the game we will serve chili and nachos at the Eagles and we need servers. Lyn Salmon volunteered to help Buddy set up that morning. Tod, Lyn, Julie and Glenda volunteered to help with serving that evening.
Committee Reports
  1. Tourism: Ardis has mailed out 160 information packets. She had a request for 130, but relied on listings in Ogallala information. We need more flyers.
  2. Schools: Paula Sissel told the group that the new principal is Greg Stanfield, and he sends his greetings. He has a lot of good ideas, and teachers and students seem to like him. Moe Moffat is putting air conditioning in some of the high school rooms. The schools have 10 new staff members.
Presentation

Bricelyn Jones attended Girl's State in Lincoln and was grateful for the opportunity and enjoyed it very much. She gave an excellent and informative talk on her experiences. She especially wanted to thank sponsors, including the Chamber.

Carol Lake adjourned the meeting.

Next Meeting: Thursday, September 21st, at S&S Cafe. Meal will start at 6:30pm, meeting at 7:00pm.
